About Wiltshire
Wiltshire is a landlocked unitary authority and historic county in South West England, renowned for its vast chalk downlands, ancient history, and large rural areas. It is world-famous for prehistoric landmarks, including the stone circles of Stonehenge and Avebury (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), and Silbury Hill. The county has a population of approximately 513,000. Key towns include the cathedral city of Salisbury, with its famous 123m spire, and the historic market town of Trowbridge (the county town). Much of the county is covered by the North Wessex Downs AONB. Wiltshire also houses significant military training areas on Salisbury Plain.
