About Liverpool
Liverpool is a major city and metropolitan borough in Merseyside, on the eastern side of the Mersey Estuary. A historically significant port city, its growth was built on trade, including the transatlantic slave trade, and later mass migration. Liverpool is globally famous as the birthplace of The Beatles. The city's waterfront, with the 'Three Graces', is a UNESCO World Heritage Site (currently on the 'in danger' list). It has a population of around 486,000. Key landmarks include the Royal Liver Building, the two cathedrals (Anglican and Metropolitan), Anfield and Goodison Park football stadiums, and the Albert Dock complex housing Tate Liverpool and museums.
