About Gwynedd
Gwynedd is a principal area in northwest Wales, encompassing much of the historic region of the same name. It includes the mountainous Snowdonia National Park, the Llŷn Peninsula, and part of the island of Anglesey. The area has the highest proportion of Welsh speakers in Wales (over 65%). The population is approximately 124,000, with Caernarfon as the administrative center. Notable landmarks include Snowdon (highest mountain in Wales), Caernarfon Castle (UNESCO site), and the Italianate village of Portmeirion.
